Name: Christmas Bird Count with BTNEP
    Date: January 2, 2017
    Event Description:
In conjunction with the National Audubon Society, the Barataria-Terrebone  National Estuary Progam is looking for volunteers to take part in a Christmas Bird Count Event.

The Thibodaux event will be one of more than 2,400 locations in the Western Hemisphere using citizen science volunteers to compile records of birds in the area. The data compiled will be used by Audubon researchers and conservation biologists to assess the status of bird populations across North America.

The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a long-standing program of the National Audubon Society, with over 100 years of citizen science involvement. All CBC are conducted between December 14th to January 5th, inclusive dates each season. Each count takes place in an established 15-mile wide diameter circle, and is organized by a count compiler. Count volunteers follow specified routes through a designated 15-mile diameter circle, counting every bird they see or hear all day. It's not just a species tally, all birds are counted all day, giving an indication of the total number of birds in the circle that day.

BTNEP is looking for back yard bird watchers to volunteer to help count birds the day of the event.

Interested volunteers need to e-mail Delaina LeBlanc, BTNEP Migratory Bird Coordinator, at delaina@btnep.org.
